We are Sam and Georgie, two young brits who have left our jobs to sail around the world on a Nicholson 35.
Sam left his job in London in September 2018, where he had spent the previous 8 years working. It has always been his dream to sail around the world and he is finally having the opportunity to do so. Sam started sailing dinghies at the age of 10 and started sailing yachts in the Solent (England) from the age of 13, taking part in yacht racing and cruising. Over the years he has built up experience gaining over 3,500 miles of ocean sailing. He has sailed part of the Atlantic crossing, around the UK, Bay of Biscay and multiple voyages in the Mediterranean.
Georgie is a comparatively inexperienced sailor with some previous involvement on a boat racing in the Solent. Having visited Australia, Bali and Fiji earlier in 2018 she has picked up an enthusiasm for travelling and the opportunity to do it by sailing to places was one that excited her. Having completed her degree in 2017, Georgie was working as a netball coach and in property before deciding that travelling was something she really wanted to do before forging a career.
The boat was built in 1983 and was bought in Toledo, Ohio, USA in 2007 by Sam’s father. It was then sailed across the Great Lakes and down the Hudson River, after which it was sailed across the Atlantic to the UK. It was then sailed around the UK and down to the Mediterranean where it has spent the last 4 years moored in Valencia. We are now living on the boat full time and continuing its voyage. The first few months were spent doing a lot of work on North Star to ensure she is ready for sailing around the world. She is an exceptionally sea worthy boat and is sure to look after her crew on their voyage.
We start our voyage at the beginning of November 2018.
Rough route plan:
Valencia – Gibraltar – Canary Islands – Cape Verde Islands – Across the Atlantic – Caribbean – Panama Canal – Galapagos – Across the Pacific – French Polynesia – and then who knows…
